Gideanne Brocheler

Trained as a midwife, I have assisted many women over the past 25 years during pregnancy and guided numerous deliveries. Initially, I worked as a midwife in my own practice and later in the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital. My appointments always ran over because I delved into people's experiences, and I regretted not having enough time for my clients. That's why I decided to stop working as a midwife and do things completely differently – as a doula and a coach.

The birth of your child is a very special, emotional, and physical experience. The way you experience childbirth has a lasting effect on how you feel as a mother and as a woman. Just ask your 91-year-old grandmother or the elderly neighbor; every woman, regardless of age, remembers the birth of her children in detail. And that's for a good reason.

Pregnancy, birth – these are life events in a woman's life. As a doula, I find it important to surround the pregnancy and birth of your child with care and attention. Your wishes and needs take center stage because you know your body best. A woman who feels supported and heard during childbirth often looks back positively on this beautiful moment in her life. A positive birth experience makes you strong, powerful, and boosts your confidence!

During pregnancy, we get to know each other well. We explore your wishes and needs, but also delve into your fears and desires. Every pregnancy and birth is different, so there's no standard plan for guidance. Often, you already know what you want. I don't need to dictate 'how it should be.' I'm here to organize things, set things in motion.

With my knowledge and experience, I know how to ask the right questions so that you dare to take the next step and have control over your pregnancy and childbirth. I suggest options for you to choose from because there's so much to read and so many choices – but what suits you?Very matter of factly, we look into things like:

  • How do you best cope with pain?
  • How do you relax best?
  • Which positions suit you?
  • What childbirth wishes are realistic?
  • Which fears can disappear through good information?

During labour, I remain continuously present and act as your helping hand for breathing, relaxation, massage, birthing positions, safeguarding boundaries and wishes, but also to listen and encourage you. I provide calmness and confidence and stay with you, no matter how long the labour lasts.

"Regardless of how your labour unfolds, my wish is for you to look back on this special moment with a positive feeling."
